Choosing The Right Game

So, you're looking to start streaming or take your channel to the next level in 2025? The first place you want to start is with content. What content is right for your channel? Which game or games are the best to play, stream and watch? What is going to entice viewers into your channel and get them involved with your community? These are just some of the questions that you should be asking yourself.

There are several ways to proceed with choosing which game to stream. And the first place to start is where do I get help to figure out which is the most optimal kind of content for me to be streaming?

We recommend firstly considering the below, and then taking a look at the different genres provided in the rest of this article to make that decision.

Use A Tracker Or Stat Finder

Use platforms that provide stats for games that are high viewer - low streamer, such as SullyGnome.

Think Multiplayer Or Chat Driven

Choose a game that your viewers can get involved in to encourage their engagement. Host viewer lobbies or chat challenges.

Review TikTok & YouTube

TikTok and YouTube Shorts are two fast paced platforms where content cycles quickly. Look at trending games for hidden gems.

Baulder's Gate 3

Baulder's Gate 3 has stood the test of time due to its regular updates that are akin to DLC standard (but for free!) and the modding community.

From the huge amount of decisions, story lines, characters designs, origin stories, romances, single and multiplayer options - BG3 is a game that can be played time and time again as if it is new.

It is still a reasonable category in terms of numbers on different streaming platforms, so not overly saturated. It can offer chat participation in terms of decision making and storylines. And you can play the multiplayer mode with your viewers.

Date Everything!

Date Everything! is a new, indie game that is prime to jump on as it is growing. Indie games with chat participation are a gold mine for engagement and growth potential.

With an all star cast, Date Everything! is a dating sim that goes the extra mile. These kind of simulators allow for an extraordinary amount of chat participation - friend, date or hate can be decided by your viewers. With over 100 dates to choose from and 3 endings for each character, there are hours of stream content time up for grabs.

Phasmophobia is regularly updated and also offers a VR option to really maximise the scares.

Horror games are a great way to involve your chat by inviting them to lobbies to join in the fun, or to hand some power over to them by setting up scary themed alerts! Assign scary noises, music, screams and more to your channel that can be triggered with commands or bits, and watch your chat explode and your donations spike instantly.

Phasmophobia is still slightly under the radar and therefore the category isn't over saturated, meaning there is still space for you to pick up the game and carve out your own space.

Dead By Daylight

Long time horror staple, Dead By Daylight, continues to be one of the top multiplayer and co-op scary games on the globe.

Dead By Daylight is very popular with streamers, so will be one of the more saturated categories you will face. However, streamers consistently seem to break through the fog to carve their own place as older streamers move on to pastures new.

DBD is known for its very active community, consistent updates and DLCS, and now also has more unserious party modes such as My Little Oni, Chaos Shuffle and 2v8. All of these can be played with viewers to add in stream interaction, and you can still consider adding spooky SFX to boost those bits.

Indie Games High Viewer - Low Streamer

Last Epoch

Last Epoch is one of the smaller games that you should consider checking out to see if it is right for your channel. For fans of Path of Exile and Diablo, this is a unique dark fantasy game with different classes to choose from, crafting, looting, and time travel.

At current, the last 30 days of Last Epoch have shown over 175,000 hours watched, an average of 245 viewers but only 15 channels streaming it - meaning that the viewership is there for it, and the amount of streamers are low. This could be a great time to sink into the Action RPG that offers single player and multiplayer modes. You could also consider inviting viewers or your community to join you in the multiplayer mode.

R.E.P.O

Another game that straddles the indie and horror game world is R.E.P.O. It is currently in early access with development expected to finish within a year. It is another multiplayer, co-op based game were you enter a building to retrieve loot and avoid the monsters lurking. For up to 6 players, meaning you can invite your community in to play with you!

The last 30 days have listed over 4 million hours watched of R.E.P.O with an average of over 5000 viewers over the 500 plus streams that are currently playing it. It has a lot more channels to vie with than Last Epoch but over 200% more viewers - it could be a great idea to get your channel in early whilst it is still in access. It could possibly become the next Among Us.

Due to its popularity, Fortnite is a heavily over-saturated category and there are many, very established streamers that host gameplay daily.

However - this doesn't mean you cannot have success if you choose to stream Fortnite, it just means that the competition for viewers is fierce. To combat this, you need to think about your niche, your unique selling point, what makes YOU different.

Play the standard gaming modes - build or no build, but introduce challenges. Perhaps suggested by chat. Also, consider focusing your content on the Creative or UEFN maps - the maps that are player made - in terms of exploration or reviews, or even creating your own.

Valorant

Valorant sits at number 5 of the most popular games streamed on Twitch in the last 30 days. Much like Fortnite, it is extremely popular and thousands of streamers show up to share their content on it every day.

To make it in the Valorant category, you're going to need to think outside the box in terms of content. Viewers will show up to your channel if they see something interesting and new to watch.

Rank climbing challenges (going from Iron to Immortal on stream for example), build and character breakdowns, coaching sessions for beginners or educational content, single weapon only challenges, chat picks your loadout and agent, play with viewers, and more.

The main things to take away from this article in terms of what games to play to encourage channel growth are these:

Use real time stats to figure out what is popular, what is trending and what has high viewer to low streamer ratios.

If you decide to stream a popular game, figure out your niche and USPs.

Chat driven and multiplayer/co-op games will encourage viewers to join and stay.
