Enhance your stream with Twitch emote add-ons

Why Twitch Emote Extensions Matter

You think a lot of things when it comes to Twitch. Maybe your first thought is "live-streaming", or "streamers" - but what comes hand in hand with Twitch channels, are Twitch emotes.

Twitch emotes are a huge part of Twitch culture. Anyone who has spent five minutes on a streaming platform or a Discord server will recognise certain emotes without explanation. OmegaLUL, Kappa, ResidentSleeper, Pepe, the list goes on and on.

Twitch emotes are a common form of discourse, a language that is so well known online that it is almost up there with the written word. These expressive pictures or short animations are a staple part of a Twitch streamer's community.

Some emotes are classical, infamous and timeless... but they aren't actually available on Twitch without Twitch emote extensions. Whilst Twitch offers a huge amount of emotes as default, Twitch emote addons add a huge selection on top of these! By unlocking these vast libraries of additional emotes for your community to use, you can create some personal

BetterTTV (BTTV)

BTTV is easily the most popular Twitch emote extension for stream channels! Featuring a huge library of static and animated emotes that are outside of the standard Twitch emotes available, many streamers choose to add this to their channel to give their community addition reaction emotes to choose from. Some of the most popular emotes you will recognise, such as POG, PepeLaugh, 5Head - are all part of the BTTV selection.

There is a very easy to use search menu to discover any emote you can think of, and not only does BTTV support both static and animated GIF emotes, there are also options to add channel-specific emotes that are only usable by your community.

A nice bonus to BTTV is their additional chat support, which you can use to unlock extra customizable options for your chat.

As a huge part of Twitch culture in general, these emotes will fully immerse you into the communities within streaming channels.

Comparison of Twitch Emote Extensions

Each of the Twitch emote extensions on offer have a range of great reasons to use on your Twitch channel.

Twitch emotes are a huge part of interactivity on your stream, as well as your Twitch chat. Whilst setup initially may take a few moments to a few hours depending on your technical abilities, the benefits from having a large catalogue of recognizable emotes that are almost expected to be available on Twitch at this point, far outweigh the setup time.

Let's have a quick review of the pros and cons of each Twitch emote extension:

BTTV:
Pros:

  • Popular, recognisable emotes
  • Dark mode
  • Chat customization
  • Options for disabling some built in Twitch features for chat
  • Works as a browser extension
  • Routinely updated and maintained by developers

  • Lacks some advanced features for message filtering and custom badges

7TV:
Pros:

  • Up to 600 slots per channel - a huge amount compared to other Twitch emote addons.
  • Custom animated emotes

In terms of setup, almost every Twitch emote extension requires a few simple clicks to connect with your Twitch channel, and those that are more involved have a range of available set-up videos available for them that are community generated.

TLDR;

Viewer interactivity with your stream will generate more views and keep more viewers. If those watching your stream have something to interactive with, something to use in conversation, something that is channel exclusive - they will feel included in the stream and in the stream community.

Using Twitch emote extensions opens up hundreds of additional emotes to your stream subscribers and viewers, as well as make their chatting experience more interesting and exciting with customizable features. Also... love your mods? Appreciate your mods? Make their lives easier! We all know how central mods are to the success of a stream environment. The chat customization options there to support them, and you.

As the setup is minimal for most, there is no reason to give one, some, or all of these Twitch emote extensions and Twitch emote addons a try out on your channel.
