Marvel Rivals - Optic Blast

Marvel Rivals hit Twitch with an explosive creator campaign, and we partnered with Twitch and NetEase to turn every participating stream into one connected battlefield. Built around Cyclops' iconic Optic Blast, viewers charged devastating attacks, defended their favourite creators and unleashed cross stream chaos through live Twitch interactions. Featuring a global leaderboard, custom overlays and campaign wide mechanics, the activation transformed individual broadcasts into a shared Marvel Rivals experience where every community had a part to play.

The results? 247 Creators activated with 20,283,950 Chat Engagements.

Assembling the Mechanics

Built around Cyclops' iconic Optic Blast, the campaign transformed individual Twitch streams into one connected battlefield. Viewers could charge their favourite creator's Optic Blast through chat, building energy towards increasingly powerful attacks that could be unleashed against rival creators. As the campaign escalated, communities worked together to trigger devastating cross stream moments while defending themselves from incoming attacks.

Supporting the experience was a suite of custom overlays, a live campaign management dashboard and a Twitch Extension featuring a global creator leaderboard. Together, these systems connected every participating stream in real time, turning the Marvel Rivals launch into a shared interactive event where every community had a role to play.

Three Stages of Destruction

Every !charge in chat added energy to a creator's Optic Blast, progressing through three distinct charge levels. At the first level, creators could unleash a small attack against a random opponent. Reaching the second level unlocked a more powerful blast, with the creators able to manually target another participating creator to create bigger moments throughout the campaign.

The final charge level unleashed the full power of Cyclops' Optic Blast. Rather than hitting a single creator, the attack ricocheted across every participating stream, creating a campaign wide event that rewarded active communities and delivered memorable moments simultaneously across Twitch.

Defence Mode

Every attack could be challenged by the targeted community. Using !shield in chat, viewers rallied behind their creator to build a defensive shield, giving every stream a chance to fight back rather than simply becoming the victim of an incoming Optic Blast.

This created a constant tug of war between communities, with viewers balancing the need to charge their own attacks while protecting themselves from rivals. The result was an engagement loop that kept chat active throughout the campaign and encouraged creators and audiences to react together in real time.

Leaderboard Extension

To keep the competition alive beyond individual streams, we developed a Twitch Extension featuring a live global leaderboard. Every !charge counted towards a creator's score, allowing communities to see exactly where they ranked against every other participating channel throughout the campaign.

The leaderboard gave viewers a shared goal, encouraging them to return throughout the event to help their favourite creator climb the standings. By turning every chat command into a visible contribution, the extension connected communities across Twitch and added another layer of friendly competition to the campaign.

The GETREKT Production Dashboard

Behind the scenes, a custom production dashboard gave creators and the team complete control over the campaign in real time. Operators could monitor every participating creator, track Optic Blast charge levels, manage attacks and oversee the flow of the event from a single interface.

The dashboard ensured the experience remained balanced and engaging throughout the campaign, allowing the team to coordinate creator interactions, trigger key moments and keep every connected stream running as one seamless live event.
