Hand Drawn Pixel Art

The Hatchery
At the heart of the activation was a bespoke stream pet overlay, designed to feel native to the world of Monster Hunter Stories 3 while sitting seamlessly within the Twitch environment. Each Monstie and egg was crafted using hand-drawn pixel artwork, with four distinct creature variations and their own themed egg designs brought to life for the launch. Once assigned at random, the chosen egg sat live on stream as follows, subs and donations pushed it towards its hatch threshold. After hatching, the pixel Monstie remained on screen as a living companion, responding dynamically to audience activity through bespoke animations rigged in Rive, creating a constant sense of motion and personality throughout the broadcast.
The Bond
The goal was to translate the core Monster Hunter Stories experience of forming bonds with Monsties into a live streaming environment. By tying Twitch engagement directly to the hatch and reaction moments, viewers were given a clear role in shaping the on-stream experience, turning passive watch time into active participation. Every follow, sub and donation became part of the Monstie’s journey, helping VTubers build stronger audience interaction during launch while reinforcing the game’s themes of hatching, companionship and adventure.
